Just Moving to Biddeford

Just moving into Biddeford?

Here is some important information to know:

Ø      Notify the Post Office of your new address – the Post Office is located on Alfred Street, and the phone number is 207-283-8565.

Ø       Obtain a Maine vehicle registration –if you are moving to Maine from another state, you have 30 days to obtain a Maine vehicle registration.  To register, you will need all the necessary paperwork (previous registration, title, insurance card, and proof of your Biddeford residency - something with your name and physical address in Biddeford (not a P.O. Box)) and you will be required to pay excise tax and other applicable fees.  If you currently have a lien on your vehicle, you will need to provide the name and address of the lienholder. Biddeford is a full service municipality, so we are able to issue license plates and complete the total registration process right in our office.  The phone number for the City Clerk’s Office, where you will need to register your vehicle, is 284-9307.

Ø       Obtain a Maine Driver’s License – you will need to go to the Dept. of Motor Vehicle.  The nearest DMV branches in our area are the Kennebunk DMV Branch on Route 1 in Kennebunk - phone number 985-4890; and the Scarborough DMV Branch located at the Cabela's shopping outlet.

Ø       Register to vote – you may register to vote at the City Clerk’s Office.  You will need to bring in identification (like a Drivers License) and proof of your Biddeford address; post office boxes are not acceptable.  {Keep in mind, you are also able to register to vote at the polls on election day, with the correct proof of residency.}

Ø       Register your dog(s) – you will need to bring in proof of rabies certificate and a neutering certificate for each dog you want to register.  Dogs that are neutered/spayed are $6.00/year; male/female dogs are $11.00/year.  Late fees are imposed after January 31st of each year.  Dog licenses can also be obtained on-line between the dates of Oct. 15th and January 31st of each year, by going to the  On-Line Services section of our website.

Ø       Obtain a beach sticker – beach permits are required each year from June 15th through Labor Day.  Resident beach permits are $25.00 for the first vehicle and then $15.00 for additional vehicles registered at the same address. Residents over 65 years old will pay $15.00 for each permit. Non-resident beach permits are $125.00.  Temporary permits are also available:  a (1) day permit is $20.00; a (3) day permit is $40.00; and a (7) permit is $65.00.  A permit is required for Biddeford Pool, Middle Beach and Fortunes Rocks beaches.  You may obtain a beach permit at the City Clerk’s Office, and you will need to provide the registration of the vehicle to which you will be putting the permit on. NOTE:  On holidays and weekends when the City Clerk's Office is not open, beach permits may be purchased at the Biddeford Police Department, located at 39 Alfred Street, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.  You will need to bring the vehicle registration with you to the Police Department. Day permits may also be purchased at the Biddeford Pool Bathhouse parking lot any day.

Ø       Trash/Recycling pick-up – for information on what day your garbage and recycling will be picked up, you may call the Public Works Dept. at 282-1579.  You may also get information about Biddeford’s recycling program through Public Works.
