Biddeford Police Chief Roger P. Beaupre and Saco Police Chief Raynald Demers announce that Maegan Lambert-Irish has accepted the coordinator’s position of the Saco Biddeford Opiate Outreach Initiative (SBOOI). The SBOOI is a collaborative comprised of the cities of Biddeford and Saco, Maine, our police departments, the University of New England’s Coastal Healthy Communities Coalition (CHCC), and Southern Maine Healthcare Center (SMHC). Maegan was the selection committee’s unanimous choice and she accepted the position effective January 30, 2017.
Maegan has a Master of Science Degree with a major in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and is a certified substance abuse counselor.
Maegan’s initial focus will be to develop a comprehensive catalog of existing local resources. Maegan will also further develop and enhance the referral process already used by the Biddeford and Saco Police Departments; advancing our community caretaker roles.
A primary goal of this position is to improve and expand our two communities’ knowledge of existing providers and to improve the connection to their services. This will include developing the ability to monitor the service providers’ availability and capacity on a real time basis.
The mission of this position is to reach out to those struggling with substance use “where they’re at” and link them with the appropriate services. On her first day in her new position, Maegan already has initiated two cases; reaching out to those struggling and their families.
Maegan’s role and responsibilities include community education. She will be working with CHCC and SMHC to coordinate community awareness and education events.
We are delighted that Maegan has chosen to join our team to help and serve our communities. She has already hit the ground running, and has set up two interviews to begin the referral process.
Anyone seeking further information and help with addiction services please contact Maegan. She will be located at the Biddeford Police Department at 39 Alfred Street, and she will also have a work space at the Saco Police Department, on Storer Street.
