Facade Improvement Program

Overview

The Facade Improvement Program is funded by the City of Biddeford Economic Development Department and has a total of $50,000 for grants of up to $15,000 to qualified applicants who wish to make external facade improvements to their downtown commercial buildings.

A dollar for dollar match is required. A Facade Improvement Grant can be used for a variety of external building facade improvements. Some examples include

  • Awnings
  • Cleaning or repainting of:
    • Surface brick and stone
    • Wood surfaces
  • Cleaning or replacement of facade siding
  • Exterior lighting
  • Highly visible storefront improvements
  • Removal of "modernization" efforts or inappropriate, non-historic alterations and additions
  • Repair or replacement of windows, doors, and trim as part of a larger scope of work
  • Restoration of original historical windows, doors, and trim where possible
  • Wall improvements, including visible side walls and murals.

Applications will be accepted beginning April 18, 2017, on a first-come-first-serve basis. Read the program overview and application (PDF).
