City Theater
Located on Main St in Biddeford City Hall, the City Theater, Southern Maine’s finest performing arts center, was designed by noted architect John Calvin Stevens and first opened its doors in 1896. The 500-seat theater, with its horseshoe balcony and near-perfect acoustics, is recognized as one of the finest Victorian opera houses in the country and has been included on the National Registry of Historic Sites.
In addition to providing theater space to outside performing groups and artists, the City Theater presents its own season of highly acclaimed stage productions and sponsors performances of music, dance and theater throughout the year. Over the past 10 years, the Theater has been carefully restored in keeping with the rich architectural history of the facility.
