The Student Firefighter Program was established in 1992 by then Fire Chief Raymond Gagne. The program is designed for students who have an interest in a career in Fire and Emergency Services. Students currently attending Biddeford High School or who are home schooled and live in Biddeford are eligible.
The program is under the direction of our District Chief, who oversees the operation of the call division.
Training Sessions
Each month the student firefighters attend 2 training sessions. These training sessions are usually done side by side with the call force firefighters as well as training by themselves as a company. They are all required to wear uniforms when attending training sessions or meetings. Some of their training sessions include equipment application and knowledge, ropes and knots, CPR certification, search and rescue techniques, SCBA cleaning, hose loads and applications, and many more.
At a fire scene, these juniors assist in establishing and assisting in rehab, assisting with the set up of accountability board as well as helping with cleaning and restocking of apparatus.
