City Hall Clock Restoration

UPDATE

The clock in the City Hall clock tower will tell time once again! On January 15, the City Council approved using part of the Vote Your Main Street funds to return the clock to working condition. Balzer Family Clock Works removed the clock on March 28 and worked to remake broken parts and complete all the necessary repairs. Restoring the clock's dials is the next step in the process, which is currently underway.

The clock and dials are expected to be reinstalled in October 2019. Because the clock is too large and fragile to transport safely, the Balzers will have to take it apart piece by piece and reassemble it in the clock tower.

The videos below show the clock and dial removal processes, and the photo on the right shows what the clock looks like now, ready for re-installation in the tower. Check out the Balzers' website to see progress photos of the restoration process taken from their workshop.

No City funds have been used to complete this work. Thank you to those who supported this project during the online voting period!

Restored City Hall Clock

Biddeford, We Did It!

Thanks to YOUR votes (nearly 85,000 of them!), Heart of Biddeford has received a $150,000 grant from American Express and the National Trust for Historic Preservation to restore the City Hall clock tower! The funding will be used to bring the clock back to working order and repair the four faces of decorative work outside the clock room.

With your support, Biddeford was able to end the contest in 3rd place out of twenty communities nationwide. Whether you voted daily or just once, THANK YOU! You can learn more details about the results of the contest in our press release.

A special thank you to Heart of Biddeford for selecting our clock tower when applying for this grant and for the many hours spent rallying the community around this landmark.

What time is it? It’s time to restore the clock tower!

You can watch a great segment of "Believe in Biddeford" that discusses the clock tower below!
