Household Hazardous Waste Day

Residents of Biddeford, Saco, Scarborough, and Old Orchard Beach will have an opportunity to dispose of household hazardous waste at no cost on the dates listed below. Proof of residency (such as a driver's license or tax bill) is required!

Saturday, May 13, 2023, 8 AM - Noon: Scarborough Public Works (20 Washington Ave)

Saturday, July 8, 2023, 8 AM - Noon: Saco Public Works, 15 Phillips Spring Rd

Saturday, September 9, 2023, 8 AM - Noon: Biddeford Recycling Center, 371 Hill Street


ACCEPTED MATERIALS:

Anti-freeze, batteries: button & rechargeable, brake fluid, chemistry sets, chlordane, degreasers, drain cleaners, engine degreaser, motor oil, floor cleaner, fluorescent bulbs, furniture polish, gasoline, herbicides, insect sprays, insecticides, kerosene, metal polish, moth balls, no-pest strips, paint thinner, pesticides, photo chemicals, rodent killers, rust inhibitors, sealants, smoke detectors that contain mercury, solvents, spot remover, upholstery cleaner, wood preservatives, wood stain, wood strippers

ACCEPTED PAINT (and paint-related products):

Acrylic, alkyd, enamel, latex, oil based, water based deck coatings, field & lawn paints, floor paints, lacquers, metal coatings, primers, rust preventatives, sealers, shellacs, stains, undercoaters, urethanes, varnishes, waterproofing: concrete & masonry, wood sealers & repellants, aerosol paints (spray cans), art & craft paint, auto paint, caulking compounds, colorants, epoxies, glues, marine paint, resins, roof patch & repair, solvents, tints, wood preservatives

The following materials will not be accepted:

  • Pathological waste
  • Radioactive waste
  • Tires
  • Explosives
  • Computers
  • Commercial waste
  • Unknown materials

To ensure safety, please:

  • Tighten caps and lids
  • Leave materials in their original labeled containers
  • Sort chemicals separately
  • Pack containers in sturdy upright boxes (not garbage bags) and drive directly to the site for dropoff
  • Do not smoke near chemicals
  • Do not mix chemicals
