South Street Sidewalk Reconstruction Project

TRAFFIC ALERT: South Street will be CLOSED from 6 AM - 5 PM on Tuesday, July 13 through Friday, July 16 for paving in the ongoing construction area between Elm Street and Jefferson Street. Please seek alternate routes as we work to complete these roadway improvements.

An upcoming construction project may impact traffic flow on South Street in Biddeford between Elm Street and Jefferson Street beginning on Monday, March 22. Previous notice of start was March 29, but the project has been moved forward in order to get the work done under the guidelines of the City's CDBG program.

The South Street Sidewalk Reconstruction Project will involve one-for-one replacement of concrete sidewalks, resetting of curbs, and the placement of ADA curb cuts and crosswalk pavers. New sidewalks and crossings will create more pedestrian-friendly, accessible routes, as well as a new, fresh look.

Additionally, the project will involve the installation of 300 feet of storm water pipe, grinding of the roadway, and newly added pavement. The storm drain work will assist the City with meeting the goals of its CSO program. This sewer separation work is required by the Department of Environmental Protection to prevent wastewater from draining into bodies of water during major storm events.

Construction will be starting at the intersection of Elm and South. Work will take place in segments of approximately 200 feet of the road at a time, and parking will be prohibited within these active construction areas. Street parking will be allowed in all areas nights after 6 and until 6:30 am the next day, as well as on weekends.

Please expect delays and road closures, seek alternate routes when possible, and observe all posted parking restrictions as the project progresses. This project is estimated to take about two months to complete. We appreciate your patience as we complete these necessary upgrades to our infrastructure.
