Biddeford City Council Adopts Emergency Declaration

On Monday evening, the Biddeford City Council adopted an emergency declaration order in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The preventative measures announced in the declaration were adopted in light of the need to practice social distancing in order to lessen the community spread of the virus.

  • All governmental public meetings beginning Tuesday, March 17, 2020 are cancelled until otherwise announced.
  • All City buildings and facilities will be closed to the public. This includes: City Hall, the Public Works building and Recycling Center, the Public Access Building, the Wastewater Treatment Plant, and the Community Center and related programs. The lobbies of the Fire and Police Departments will remain open, but access to the remainder of the buildings will be closed to the public.
  • The Recreation Department will be cancelling all upcoming programming until future notice. Full refunds or account credits will be given on any Recreation program or trip you have registered for while we are suspending service.

We will still be here to serve you during this closure:

  • If you have business to complete that requires in-person assistance at City Hall: Please call our service hotline so that our staff can determine how to assist you. The phone number is 207-284-9020, and the line will be monitored during business hours. If it goes to voicemail, a member of our staff will respond to your message as soon as possible.
    • If you need non-emergency services from the Police Department or Fire Department, please call 207-282-5127. (If there is an emergency, call 911)
    • If you need service from Public Works, please call 207-282-1579.

Now that we have an understanding of the severity of COVID-19, it is clear that social distancing is critical in order to stop its spread. We believe that closing our buildings and cancelling future meetings and events is the best choice for the health and safety of the community at this time. We will continue to monitor the spread of COVID-19 and share any additional updates at www.biddefordmaine.org/publichealth, as well as on Facebook and Twitter.
