[ARCHIVED] Recovery Month Spotlight: People Recover Program

Each September, National Recovery Month celebrates the gains made by those in recovery and the dedication of service providers and community members across the nation who make recovery in all its forms possible. There is no better time than National Recovery Month 2021 to spread the message of our People Recover program.

In 2016, officers at the Biddeford Police Department were finding that they were often interacting with individuals in the community who were in need of recovery services. Recognizing the need for a professional specifically trained in the field of substance use and recovery, the City sought and received a grant to hire Maegan Lambert-Irish as the City’s first Substance Use Outreach Liaison and begin the People Recover program.

People Recover offers compassionate and confidential support to identify the treatment and recovery services that best fit the individual’s needs. Anyone can reach out to Maegan to make a referral, whether for themselves or their loved one, or simply reach out to ask questions and have a conversation without fearing judgement. All those in need of services are encouraged to connect with Maegan regardless of any barriers they may be experiencing, such as the cost of treatment or being uninsured, and the program will help to work around these barriers.
